Heal In India

One of the many things that I really admire about India is how much they value their herbal heritage. The traditional system of Ayurveda which utilises medicinal plants within it's healing philosophy, is widely understood and accepted in it's home nation, furthermore Ayurveda is promoted and supported by the Indian government, being valued as one of the countries great assests, read my Top Destinations For Herbal Tourism- India

'Heal In India' is a government initiative to promote India as a wellness destination for foriegners to travel to and recieve treatment for health concerns under the Ministry of Ayush guidance. The Ministry of Ayush is a government department dedicated to developing India's traditional medical systems and is an acroynm for Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy.

Visas are always needed to visit India, the regular tourist visa is valid for 60 days and is suitable for tourism and shorter wellness programmes, for a longer stay to address health needs an Ayush visa is required.

The e-AYUSH Visa will allow foreigners to enter India and stay at an accredited hospital or wellness centre for up to one year for medical treatment and for six months for wellness.

There are two different Ayush visas, one for the person seeking treatment AY- 1, and a second for attendants, who could be friends or family members accompanying them, AY-2.

Do you need an attendant?

Usually in India attendants are required but there is often an option for paid staff at the facility to fulfil this role. Check with any potential hospitals or clinics before applying.

The benefits of the Ayush Visa are -

  • Promotion of traditional medicine and wellness tourism

  • That attendants can accompany the patient

  • Suitable for those with chronic illness

  • Access to accredited facilities

  • Longer stays than tourist visa allow

  • Multiple entries

Who Can Apply For The Ayush Visa?

You will need to submit medical documents from the establsihment where you are seeking the treatment including prescriptions, medical history and recommended treatment plans.

A proof of funds is required such as bank statements to prove you can finance your stay in India and a return airline ticket.

How To Apply For An Indian Medical Visa

The first step in the process will be to find an accredited Ayush hospital or wellness centre, depending on your needs. You should contact them to obtain an invite or admission letter.

The facility will then generate an invite or 'portal letter' to support your visa application.Your documents will need to be uploaded here where you select the medical e-visa option.

Where To Go

The hospital or wellness centre should be accredited with a government authority, check my latest blog on India or visit my Herbal Directory
